On Monday, September 30, 2013, a fire destroyed the home of Old Colony DeMolay, the Quincy Masonic Building. The four-alarm fire was caused by a construction crew doing renovations to the basement of the building. The building, home to Old Colony DeMolay since the chapter was instituted in 1924, must be demolished, with exception to the front facade.
Many of the chapter's possessions were lost. Regalia, awards, records, and other items of historic value can not be recovered. However, some items were not lost. Less than one week before, the chapter moved its charter, Bible, altar cloth, school books, candles and chapter bell to its temporary home, the First Baptist Church of Wollaston.
These critical items (including the charter signed by Frank S. Land), the foundation for any chapter, are what Old Colony DeMolay will rebuild upon.
Old Colony DeMolay appreciates the thoughts and concerns received from fellow DeMolays and Masonic family across Massachusetts and the United States.
We will continue to update you on the status of our rebuilding process.
